MAYDAY Celebrations!

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012, will be a special cause for the 99% to rally across America in celebration of International Workers’ Day. By all means, Google your own location for what’s happening where.

For Detroit, where this site is home, feel free to join workers, women, immigrants and the rights of democracy for all to assemble, march and rally at the locations and time most convenient for you: more…

Conservatism vs. Moral Development…

Disclosure: This commentary comes from both my political and scientific training. Politically, I consider myself a revolutionary, democratic socialist. I am also a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD). Make of it as you will…

First of all, I believe that as a social species we’re born conservative. We start out as squalling, demanding infants totally focused on our own needs, wants and desires. As we grow, we adapt to our given culture. (Albeit, there is convincing research that indicates that 1% of humans are born as psychopaths.) more…

Jasmine Thar, Southern Justice…

Ahh, how do fundamentalist Christians, the Klan and its modern equivalent, the Tea-Party, yearn for the old days…

Jasmine Thar, 16...

Jasmine Thar and Trayvon Martin just don’t have that same punch as it used to be when the local newspaper would openly advertise a Sunday after-church barbeque and lynching. more…

Secret Service & Smokin’ Chicas…

My first experience with the US Secret Service was on a weekend in April, 1961, Nashville, TN. Me and a fellow soldier in the 101st Airborne at  Ft. Campbell, KY, were down in Nashville spending our tax refund checks…a windfall back then. We were 18. (This article has been updated as of January 2017.)

After checking into the Holiday Inn with a bottle of scotch, a pint of sloe gin and a rent-a-girl, we soon discovered a raging party on the floor above us.

Vice-President Lyndon Johnson was in town to throw out the first pitch at Sulphur Dell Park. Those guys knew how to throw a party.

UNRWA & Settler-Colonialism…

There are 10 million Palestinians in the world. Some 70% of them (7,450,000) are refugees and displaced persons under the care, in part, of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

UNRWA health clinic...

To listen to some of the national-race arguments: Palestinians are desert Arabs who wandered into Judea and Samaria after the Romans dispersed most of the Jews into the Euro-Diaspora some 2,000 years ago.

Thus the catchy motto: “A land without a people for a people without a land.” more…

CIA: Conservative, Inept, Air-heads…

In the summer of ‘66, leaving UC Berkeley, Frank J. Rafalko applied to the CIA to become a spy. He spent the next 32 years staying in-the-box with an adagio performance of the requisite noblesse oblige before the altar of gov’t service.

Rafalko is the author of a 4-volume series on the history of counter-intelligence in America. In 2011 he published, MH/CHAOS, The CIA’s Campaign Against the Radical New Left and the Black Panthers (Naval Institute Press). Save your money, they aren’t worth the postage. more…

Is there any there there?

I’m of the opinion that there is more than ONE way to get from here to there…

America’s prevalent national characteristic, as anyone who does any traveling can attest, is individualism.

This is a two-sided dilemma. While good for personal profit, privilege and power, it also makes us the most internally alienated society on earth. more…

Zionism, Fascism & Settler-Colonialism…

The current state of Political Zionism and the roots of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) was founded in 1897 by Theodor Herzl in Basel, Switzerland.

Their primary goal in answer to persistent and vicious anti-Semitism was Jewish separatism and the creation of a nation state, Eretz Yisrael. more…

Dumb & Dumber…

Before graduating from Wayne State University in Detroit, I had to pass courses in American Gov’t and English proficiency. All accredited universities require certain knowledge in these areas (math and computer literacy have since been added). Sometimes I wonder…

I still can’t figure out why any social progressive (including so-called Libertarians) could actively fail to understand at the minimum the basics of a civil republic and the long-term advantages of a representative democracy with constitutional guarantees for individuals and minorities.

Think of it as a transitional program…certainly the corporatist enemy does… more…
