A Good Beginning? A Chain of 100 Corporatists at the Bottom of the Ocean…

Here’s a few wild ideas that came to mind while I was waiting for the cell door to open over the past 20-plus years. Of course,

little did I realize that the free-world itself was becoming another level of minimum security.

After I got out, Detroit friends held a Welcome Home party for me. Perhaps I should have welcomed y’all to MY world… more…

Corporatists & Their Infantile Allies…

Ultra-right insanity works for the ruling elite because division, disruption and dissuasion is their game. For the ultra “left,” it’s a fool’s errand…or worse…

As I witness another go-around in the revolutionary struggle, I have this sinking feeling of Yogi’s inimitably stated, déjà vu, all over again. more…

Truth, Justice & the American Way…

Why should there be any sense of justice in a nation that fosters and promotes ethnic, sexist, and class murder? It’s as American as apple pie…

Trayvon Martin (17)…

While corporatist Republican bottom feeders race to the depths of the bigoted cesspool, honorary blue-dog Democrats, Obama and his attorney general, are busy promulgating security laws worthy of a police state. more…

Prison-Based Gerrymandering…

One of the more pernicious political tools that corporatist conservatives and others have created since at least the American civil war, has been the transition of de jure slavery into the modern form of the criminal justice system.

A variety of factors have driven this process. Prisons have largely become warehouses of surplus labor, prison industry, the disenfranchisement of urban voters, and gerrymandering into rural conservative districts. more…

Acid, Bombs & Grateful Dead…

The summer of ’68 was my “acid summer.” A couple of doctor friends at Wayne State University here in Detroit (Robin Barraco and Henry Normile, now deceased) acquired a batch of Owsley’s “Purple Haze” LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide). Owsley was the sound engineer and chemist for the Grateful Dead

While the “trips” started out as quasi-academic experiments (there was no shortage of volunteers from students and faculty), they soon morphed into Dr. Timothy Leary-like “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out” get-high parties. more…

Georgia, Johannesburg & Jerusalem…

In October of ’59, I and a black friend sat down at an Augusta, Georgia, lunch-counter. We were both 17, from NYC, Army radio school students stationed at Ft. Gordon, Georgia, and out on our first pass in our new uniforms.

Bibi Netanyahu: American educated...

We stopped at a department store and ordered an ice cream soda. We didn’t have a clue…

Several minutes passed before the manager came over, leaned over the counter and said, “We don’t serve niggers!” Turning to me, he added, “And we don’t serve nigger-lovers! Now, git!” more…

Israel, Iran & I’m-a-Geddon Outta Here…

Since before I crossed over the River Jordan into Occupied Palestine in the summer of ’69, I’ve been an interested witness to Israel’s march into history. I’ve found that there are two Israels:

One is a normal state of secular and religious Jews, Christians, Palestinians and other assorted folk. The second is a colonial-settler state ruled by fanatics hell-bent on an aparthied state of Eretz Yisrael. more…

Elections, Selections & Joe Mammy…

In November there will be a choice to vote for Obama and a continuing slide down the slippery slope toward corporatism, or a Republican and an accelerated slide down that same slope. Take your choice.

Naturally, they’ll be third party candidates, such as Jill Stein for the Green Party, and Rocky Anderson for the Justice Party.

Corporatist-Republicans will certainly encourage such third parties as that would nullify votes for Obama.

There’s every likelihood that the next president of the United States will be a Republican. (Naming which one is irrelevant. The party’s long been captured as CRABS—corporate racist bigots.) more…

IBM & Nazis: Business is their Middle Name…

While I was serving a 25-yr bit in federal prison, Peter Werbe, an editor friend of Detroit’s Fifth Estate, requested that I write a book review. He sent the book, One Man in His Time (2002), which was about the life of a former Waffen SS soldier, Hans Post.

The book documents Hans’s journey from family (his parents joined the Nazi Party in 1928 when he was 2-yrs-old), to the Hitler Youth, to his service (highly decorated), to various prisons, to mine work, union leadership, and left activism. It follows him when he his wife and daughters emigrate to Australia, where he continued his union work and activism.

IBM: "Arbeit Macht Frei"...

Today, Hans is 86-yrs-old and the godfather of the Australian peace movement. A remarkable and surprising journey from fascism to social consciousness.

Others have had a different journey. Many works have been published documenting the collaboration between Americans, business and the Nazis…before and during the war. more…
