Freedom Is Not Free…

One of my correspondents claims an officer in the Pentagon shared this story with him….

I was the chalk leader on a military flight back from Afghanistan.  We flew out of Baghram Air Field. We went thru customs at BAF, full body scanners (no groping), had all of our bags searched, the whole nine yards.

Our first stop was Shannon, Ireland, to refuel. After that, we had to stop at Indianapolis, Indiana, to drop off about 100 troops from the Indiana National Guard.  That’s where the stupid started. more…

Innocence & Evil…

This is a tough one. The brutal murder of a child is never easy.  But as bad as this case is, certain reactionary politics takes it beyond the abyss of human depravity…

Raul & Brisenia Flores on her Holy Communion...

Shawna Forde (43) and one of her lieutenants, Jason Bush (36), purporting to be police, raided the home of Raul and Gina Flores and their 9-yr-old girl, Brisenia, in Arivaca, Arizona, May 30th, 2009.

Of course, they weren’t cops—at least not authentic ones.  Shawna was the founder and leader of an ultra-right, racist militia group, Minutemen American Defense (MAD).

She had about 20 members and among other actions, they patrolled the Arizona-Mexico border for drugs and illegal aliens.  They were also active in Republican and Tea Party politics, and had been praised and encouraged in their vigilantism by the DEA and ICE. more…

As Time Goes By…

As the Chinese saying goes, it’s been interesting…  And at almost 69, perhaps I’ll even have a few more qualitative yrs left…

Ingrid Bergman, 1942...

Born in the Summer of ’42, I entered this life with Stephen Hawking, Mohammed Ali, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix (whom I also served with in the 101st Airborne), and some 2,800,000 others in the US alone…many of whom never made it this far.

As it turned out, my favorite movie and song is Casablanca (1942) and As Time Goes Bymore…

Corporate Class War…

I marvel at the corporations when they scream “Class war!” in accusation against those who reveal their perfidy in the economy and throughout society.  In classic projection, they thus demonstrate precisely what they are themselves practicing.

Most of the public mistakenly believe it is just a political argument between conservatives and liberals.

Those of us who’ve experienced this draconian criminal justice system and the mordida of the razor-wire gulag, should know better.  We’ve been the victim of this phenomenon in more direct and punitive ways, but we’re hardly alone… more…

Beckerheads & Chickenhawks…

As a doctor of forensic psychology (PsyD), I study a variety of techniques and therapeutic paradigms.  I estimate that the professional discipline of psychology is about one-third science and two-thirds art.

Glenn Beck’s secret dreams…

The time or two I’ve actually watched Glenn Beck, I’ve always been amazed at how he could be so popular.  It reminds me of a reality show—this one from an asylum.

Since I’m not a clinical practitioner, nor is Beck a client of mine, nor do I have any privileged information regarding him, I am not in any violation of professional ethics in these discussions.

Transference and projection is most definitely a well-proven facet of psyche science.  It’s practically impossible for an individual to consistently and effectively disguise the reverse imaging of their internalization.  The process is like a living lie detector. more…

Bernie Madoff & JPMorgan Chase…

Most of the wealthy elite—comprising a ruling class in America (1/10th of 1% of the population)—operate a modified form of Ponzi scheme.

Bernie Madoff…

The NY Times’s Frank Rich commented recently:  “The billions that vaporized in Madoff’s Ponzi scheme amounted to a rounding error next to [the] too-big-to-fail banks wracked by their own Ponzi schemes…

“The culture allowed for loftier flimflams than [Madoff’s] to succeed—though the loftier culprits, unlike him, usually escaped with the proceeds.  That financial culture largely remains in place today.”

Justice & Fate…

There is a principle in philosophy that a person’s ultimate fate is a product of their karma…of how they treat others.

Louis Antoine de Saint-Just

If this is generally true—and I believe that it is—then arch-conservative reactionaries and the wealthy elite they serve—are earning one helluva lot of payback.

More than one of my fellow prisoners has accused me of being a liberal, a dreamer, and a fool.  They were always from the “I got mine, f*** you” crowd.

We all have heroes in our lives.  Those who exemplify who we are and what we want to be.  A major tool in the practice of clinical psychology (I’m a non-clinical PsyD), is to get a client to reveal themselves thru transference and projection.  That’s almost always a mirror in their own image.  more…

Scalia & the Scabs of Justice…

This American Tribune has published several weblog posts on the corporatist members of the US Supreme Court—the Gang of Five.  The most recent was, “All Shame in Their Game…,” on 10Feb2011.

Antonin Scalia: Ein Mann seiner Zeit...

Lest some of my readers think that my comments were far-fetched, the following day, in echo of the sentiments we expressed, Attorney Bruce Fein, a former Associate Deputy Attorney General for Ronald Reagan, had a letter published in the NY Times (11Feb2011) stating:

“Justice Antonin Scalia galloped far beyond the furthest boundaries of judicial propriety in secretly meeting on Capitol Hill to discuss the Constitution with Tea Party members of Congress saddled with a co-equal duty to assess the constitutionality of legislative action.  If there are better ways to destroy public confidence in judicial impartiality, they do not readily come to mind.

“…Justice Abe Fortas was forced to resign for, among other things, secretly advising President Lyndon B. Johnson on race, urban unrest and the Vietnam War.”  more…

Egypt & the Struggle for Democracy…

Democracy is not a ripe fruit that you can pick off a tree; democracy is a seed that you need to plant and nurture.

There are lessons here that future organizing cadre of  the more than 10,000,000 prisoners and “felons” throughout the American gulag should be examining for potential application to our own struggle for justice, reconciliation, and democracy.

More of the same?

The opportunity in the current Egyptian example will be in observing the role of the wealthy civilian elite and military forces in charge at the moment, and the emerging role of oppositional democratic elements, in particular, Mohamed Elbaradei.

The watchword on Al Jazeera—easily the most consistent on-site and factual news reporting team–when the news came down of Mubarak’s resignation was, “This is not the end, but the beginning.”  The real work of the revolution, the struggle for democracy, begins now. more…

Drug Dealing…Econ 0730…

While the central focus of a prisoner’s existence is the cause that put us in here and the terms and conditions that we have to serve, most of us cease being overly obsessed with the issue within a year-or-so.

The Real Plan Colombia…

The conservative and public myth is that most prisoners claim they’re innocent.  Actually, very few do.  However, many do accurately claim mis-charging and draconian sentencing.

Given all the hidden stats (youth, worker immigrants, security, etc.) there are close to 3 million souls in the American prisoner gulag.  The largest prison system in the history of the world. more…
