OK, Now What?

The election’s over.  What have we learned?  I shudder to think what almost could have happened. Clearly, some of us think there IS an important difference.

But first, as many of us celebrate the defeat of a serious threat by $billionaire kleptocrats, my readership is due a personal mea culpa.

I predicted the defeat of Obama in 2008 and again in 2012. I am delighted to admit that I was wrong both times. more…

Romney, Ryan & Electoral IQ…

The right-racist-hate machine today rules (at least) the 29 Republican states.  Obama will almost certainly “lose” the coming election.

He only won in ‘08 in the first place with a voting landslide. He’s long abandoned that political base…probably listening too carefully to his neo-liberal Democratic forbear, Big Bubba Clinton.  The fact that he was never more than a jumped-up populist in the first place is no consolation. more…

2012 Referendum: Vote!

For left cadre, this election is more than a choice between Obama and Romney, both of whom represent the corporatist elite.

On the field of political combat, there’s both a tactical difference as well as a referendum on the State of Mass Consciousness.

There’s not so many of us that we can ignore this question. more…

Voting, Democracy & Revolution…

This is a monologue of a few ideas that are irritatingly rolling around in my brain like a BB in a boxcar. It’s longer than my usual articles, given the subject matter. I ‘spect it’s not the final word…

One of my earliest memories was listening to a political campaign on the radio—1944? ’48?—and asking my mother what was meant by “Democrats and Republicans?”

She answered in her Irish-New England lilt, “Republicans are the rich people, Nicky. Democrats are the rest of us.”  I admit, that always stuck with me. more…

Secret Service & Smokin’ Chicas…

My first experience with the US Secret Service was on a weekend in April, 1961, Nashville, Tennessee. Me and a fellow soldier in the 101st Airborne from Ft. Campbell, KY, were in town spending our tax refund checks…a windfall back then. We were 18.

Nick Medvecky, 17 (1960)...

After checking into a Holiday Inn with a bottle of Ten High bourbon whiskey, a pint of Sloe Gin and a rent-a-girl, we soon discovered a raging party on the floor above us. more…

Here & There…

Some of you may have noticed that AmericanTribune.org has not published since October 6th. Both my back and computer went out. The computer was upgraded easily enough, but my back is still recovering…

After a week of intense pain (acute sciatica) I gave up procrastinating and went to the VA emergency room. Meds have given me some relief.

Today, going on 3 weeks later, I still have much the same symptoms and a few more. I’ll have to visit the hospital again. more…

Nader & West Take Obama to the Woodshed…

When Fox News uses the motto “Fair and Balanced,” they’re not referring to news reporting. In fact, they’re not referring to news at all.

They claim that virtually all of the “liberal” (corporate) mainstream media are biased, so they “balance” this out by only reporting conservative opinions and propaganda.

I won’t bother arguing the point. Basically, it all comes down to which side you’re on: Over 97% of the people on Earth simply want a good life. That could be a reality if there were some semblance of equitable social distribution. more…

Why Obama Will Not be the Next President…

In 2008 I was wrong.  Obama won, not Hillary. I hope I’m wrong again. I mean, what’s the alternative? The most likely candidate to take the oath in 2013 is Mitt Romney. He’s the flavor-of-the-hour of the corporate elite.

Boner & his Lapdog...

Whoever the Republican candidate is, he’ll win in any event (or she, for that matter). The fix is in. Even if Obama wins the popular vote in a landslide, he’ll lose in the Electoral College.

The best the gulag population has to look forward to (2.5+ million prisoners in the US), is a whole lot more “austerity.” That translates to fewer privileges for inmates. Not that things are so great to begin with.

Higher prices at commissary. Paying for meds and med visits. Zero recreation and education. But, not to worry, Jesus and all that crowd of ghouls, ghosts and goblins will remain eagerly available for worship. more…

Zombie Politics & Corporate Rape…

Apparently while Congress was being held hostage, President Barack Obama surrendered to the kidnappers Tuesday afternoon, August the 2nd. Describing his capitulation as a compromise, the president signed the bill authorizing their ransom.

Republican relief...

The editor and publisher of one of the few media in the US not outright owned and operated by the ruling corporations, Katrina vanden Heuvel of The Nation magazine, noted that “Negotiating with fiscal terrorists only encourages them.” more…

Obama’s Moral Vision?

All contributions by corporations to any political committee or for any political purpose should be forbidden by law.”

This comment was made over a hundred years ago by T. Roosevelt to Congress.  Try to find a politician today to make this statement.  If such were to come to pass, the Republican Party for one would cease to exist—at least in its incorporation today. more…
