Berlusconi, Mubarak & Teen Fantasies…

I really couldn’t pass this one up.  There I was, watching Al Jazeera TV live from Cairo when one of the reporters commented on a piece of gossip.  It was just one of those minor things, but it seemed to touch upon so much of what’s going on these days.

   The reporter was one of those in Tahrir Square whom I knew back in 1969-71 in Beirut, Lebanon, when I was an occasional combat-stringer for NBC and a reporter/photog for other media.  Oh yeah, brought back a lot of memories…

The gossip was about Silvio Berlusconi (74), $billionaire prime minister of Italy.  Earlier in the week, Silvio was in line with President Obama and the European leaders generally calling for Hosni Mubarak to leave and the peaceful transition of the regime in Egypt.

By Friday, Berlusconi dropped the call for Mubarak to leave and was describing him as always being considered among “the wisest of men.”  But Ol’ Silvio had a good reason to butter-up the Man of the Hour. more…
