Radical Sprouts…

Few participate in mass actions without coming away impressed and changed.  Such events have a dynamic of their own beyond one’s mere presence. One of the most unexpected and surprising demos for me occurred back in the autumn of ’68. Another one you won’t find in the history books.

Gov. George Wallace…

Tuesday, October 29th was a slow day. Myself and several comrades (YSA-SWP) had decided to check out the George Wallace rally at Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit.  The presidential election was only a week away. more…

OK, Now What?

The election’s over.  What have we learned?  I shudder to think what almost could have happened. Clearly, some of us think there IS an important difference.

But first, as many of us celebrate the defeat of a serious threat by $billionaire kleptocrats, my readership is due a personal mea culpa.

I predicted the defeat of Obama in 2008 and again in 2012. I am delighted to admit that I was wrong both times. more…

From Parliamentarism to Capitalist Dictatorship…

The next article you read from this site will be after the (s)election of a capitalist dictatorship to power.  Let’s hope I’m wrong.

Professor Juan Cole…

(Some of my comrades choose to believe they already live in one; I suspect that they’ll soon get a severe lesson in that regard.) more…

Opposing Romney & Ryan…

The article below was published October 19th by Rabbi Michael Lerner of the organization Tikkun and the Network of Spiritual Progressives (NSP). The author, Daniel Ellsberg, exposed the Pentagon Papers back in 1971. Since that time, Ellsberg has been involved in many progressive causes.

Ellsberg speaks here to the issue of the coming election in less than 3 weeks. It has been edited for space. This site  supports his position completely:

By Daniel Ellsberg:

It is urgently important to prevent a Republican administration under Romney/Ryan from taking office in January 2013. more…

For What It’s Worth…

Something’s happening here…” The ultra-right doesn’t care how they secure political power—vote, don’t vote, or sing homages to the f***in’ fairies—just so long as they achieve power…

When ultra-right conservatives lie, cheat and steal at every level of their social and political lives, they do so because they utterly and completely believe that that’s what everyone else is doing. It’s all they know; it’s all they were taught in their formative youth. more…

We The People vs. Corporatism…

Class War! There’s no delicate way to put it. Nor is there any single way to fight it.  This is far more than a routine political election.  All who sit or play on the sidelines are on the wrong side of history.  It’s not Obama’s ass on the line…it’s ours!

(Disclosure: I’m convinced that (1) the Republican Party has become a total creature of the corporate elite.  (2) A growing mass of the US population has been abandoned by Democratic Party leadership, which primarily serves corporate interests.

(The Dems (3) are at least an open party with many disparate elements, and (4) I believe that an opportunity exists for progressive and socialist cadre to become a conscious faction of the only mass party in the US that is available to the average American in order to reach and represent the abandoned mass not otherwise available to those outside the two-party system.) more…

2012 Referendum: Vote!

For left cadre, this election is more than a choice between Obama and Romney, both of whom represent the corporatist elite.

On the field of political combat, there’s both a tactical difference as well as a referendum on the State of Mass Consciousness.

There’s not so many of us that we can ignore this question. more…

Voting, Democracy & Revolution…

This is a monologue of a few ideas that are irritatingly rolling around in my brain like a BB in a boxcar. It’s longer than my usual articles, given the subject matter. I ‘spect it’s not the final word…

One of my earliest memories was listening to a political campaign on the radio—1944? ’48?—and asking my mother what was meant by “Democrats and Republicans?”

She answered in her Irish-New England lilt, “Republicans are the rich people, Nicky. Democrats are the rest of us.”  I admit, that always stuck with me. more…

Election Victories…2011…

Election Day, November 8th, 2011, was most definitely a day we won’t be hearing much about from the corporate conservative media and their procurers…

If we needed any objective evidence to indicate the political direction of the progressive movement, we got a clear signal in yesterday’s voting booths.

Ironically, they are the cause of their own growing defeat. more…

2012: A Really Historic Election?

Michael Moore“President Obama’s going to take the wrong path.  He’s going to say what we need now is more bipartisanship, more kumbaya.  I don’t know how much you have to be battered and bruised to understand when the abuser is not going to stop abusing.”

Moore appeared on Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman on election night.  He made the above comments concerning what he believed was the public position that the president was going to take.  He made a lot of sense. more…
