Troy Davis & State Crime…

American Tribune dot org does not condemn the death penalty per se, at least not in this current world. We have spoken both for and against it in a variety of specific circumstances.

Troy Anthony Davis

Some crimes are obviously so vile, so predatory, that it seems only the catharsis of the perpetrator’s execution can cleanse our collective consciousness of the psychic stain and depravity.

While clearly the state sanction of death is disproportionately and often unjustly employed against black and Latino populations, that does not mean that we advocate ethnic parity. We tend to address the issues of criminal causation, the crime, and the specific criminal. more…

People Patriots vs. Corporate Criminals…

The first national holiday celebrating America’s working class was observed on a Tuesday, September 5th, 1882. It became a federal holiday—Labor Day—in 1894 and is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year since.

Few lessons are taught on the subject. It took 100 years of class war by gov’t and big business and thousands of deaths for the American working class to even get that far.

From the beginning of the Republic, the US justice system deemed workers who came together for the purpose of “raising wages,” were “criminal combinations,” an early form of conspiracy law.  Commonwealth vs. Pullis (1806). more…

Criminals, Police & Other Felons…

I got a real chuckle over watching the “news” on General Electric’s NBC the other day. They announced the apprehension of Whitey Bulger (81), one the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted after 16 years of being on the lam. I’ll have to admit, I was surprised.

James "Whitey" Bulger 1953...

Having known several of Whitey Bulger’s associates in prison and following the news of the time, I was quite aware of his history as an informant/protégé of the FBI and other police agencies, and how they created him as a mob boss.

NBC, ever more following in the tabloid/profit-driven steps of News Corp (Rupert Murdoch), was true to form in leaving out all of the more salient facts of Whitey’s and the FBI’s history.

Whitey’s central partner in the FBI was Special Agent John Connolly (now 70). John grew up in the same South Boston neighborhood and knew Whitey. Connolly would later be convicted himself for his role with Whitey’s mob and sent to federal prison for 10 years. more…

Crime, Criminals & Conspiracies…

(NOTE: If your ears are too sensitive for prison-speak, then please feel free to pass up this article…)

As a 21+yr veteran of the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), I’ve met and known my fair share of criminals.  Most of them don’t hold a candle, however, to the crew operating these days in the Republican Party.

Cripes!  I mean, how would you like over half of Congress covering your ass?  Not only free get-out-of-jail cards, but you’ll never even be investigated!?!  A majority of the US Supreme Court?  Yup.  Governors?  They got ‘em.  State judges and legislators?  Plenty, no problem.

Hold up a bank for a few thousand bucks and go to prison.  Hold up the same bank for a billion-or-so, and even the neo-liberals will bend over so far they’ll give you a few billion more! more…

Katrina Killer Kops Go Down…

In a rare show of justice, two of the killer cops in the Henry Glover murder during the post-Katrina events have received significant sentences.

Police-torched car...

Federal Judge Lance Africk sentenced New Orleans cops David Warren to 25 years, and Greg McRae to 17.  This site previously included this case in a report on New Orleans’s police entitled “State Terrorists & Their Gangs.”

The case was only able to move forward due to the persistence of the family, witnesses, and investigations by ProPublica and The Nation magazine forced a federal response.  more…

Drug Dealing…Econ 0730…

(Given the nature of this article, I’ve departed from my short versions…this one is just over twice as long as usual…)

While the central focus of a prisoner’s existence is the cause that put us in here and the terms and conditions that we have to serve, most of us cease being overly obsessed with the issue within a year-or-so.

The Real Plan Colombia...

The conservative and public myth is that most prisoners claim they’re innocent.  Actually, very few do.  However, many do claim mischarging and draconian sentencing.

Given all the hidden stats (youth, worker immigrants, security, etc.) we’re close to 3 million souls in the American prisoner gulag.  The largest prison system in the history of the world. more…

All Shame in Their Game…

During my 22+ yrs in jails and prisons around the world, I’ve known and listened to the stories of many fellow prisoners.

Corporate Court...

Hans Post, was in the famed unit of Col. Otto Skorzeny’s Waffen SS Kommando.  He served (two Iron Crosses) at the Battle of the Bulge (in American uniform), the Russian Front, was captured and escaped from the Czech partisans, was a POW at the infamous killing camp of the French at Thoree les Pins, and did a stint in a German post-war prison for selling a contraband pistol. more…

Public vs. State Criminals…

One of the tasks that society extends to and depends upon the police for, is the investigation and apprehension of social predators.  But what do we do when the predators are the ones with the badges?

The Real Dirt in the Sandwich...

When criminals with badges violate that voluntary oath and prey upon the populace, they deserve all the sanctions that social predators should get—and more.

This site–American Tribune: The Prison Experience Connection–in no way condones or defends those amongst us who prey upon others.  Whomever they may be, we call for equal justice for all.

One of the more egregious examples where certain police, prosecutors, and judges have acted as predatory criminals was in the case of Jerry Hobbs of suburban Chicago (Zion), Illinois.  more…

LUIS POSADA: America’s Osama bin Laden…

Another trial in Texas is about to commence—no doubt with the same laughable result.  Last week  Tom DeLay was sentenced to three yrs for public corruption.  I doubt he’ll ever serve a day.  The CIA’s arch-terrorist, Luis Posada Carriles, is scheduled for trial today (Jan. 17th) in a Houston federal court for perjury to an immigration judge.

The face of terror...

Posada has a vast history of terrorist bombings, and even the destruction of a civilian airliner.  But the US doesn’t consider them to be crimes given that Luis was acting under CIA orders and/or in conjunction with their anti-Cuba pathology.

Posada was tailor-made for the CIA.  Not having their own hit teams (they borrow them from the Special Forces, the Mafia, or other nations), they recruit others to do their dirty work.

Posada is one of those psychopathic killers (DSM-IV) that conservative and neo-liberal corporatists in gov’t love, or at least tolerate as necessary in their pursuit of power and wealth.  more…

Apocalyptic Tyranny…

As the New Year dawns, this is a time of reflections, resolutions, and predictions.  I have a few of my own.  My sentence will be up on July 8th, 2011.  Just over 21 yrs.  I’ll then have another 3 yrs of Supervised Release.

I’ve been pretty philosophical about it.  From day one, I’ve realized that there’s not a whole lot one can do about the state of “justice” in America.  This is an especial irony given the ideals that the nation stands for versus its reality.

The native inhabitants found this out first.  Then the Africans.  Then each wave of immigrants.  And many continue this process today.

Our nation is today engaged in two wars.  There’s also the so-called War on Drugs and the War on Terror.  They’re all self-perpetuating because they’re designed—or so it seems and works out–to create more victims than to resolve any conflict. more…
