Psychopathy & The 1%…

We–the 99%–require a new consciousness of precisely who and what we face . . . and to face the need for resistance to the ruling World Order for the very survival of humanity and the planet.

resultsBut first, we need to clearly define who the 1% are. They are not simply Wall Street or the wealthy elite. (Some of whom are just as concerned with humanity and the planet as we are.)

Hyperbole? Consider

Psychopaths in Schools & Sociopaths in Politics…

Between natural catastrophes and personal madness, there’s a lot on our plate this holiday season. We sure don’t need the ruling elite and their conservative cadre manufacturing a fiscal cliff to further satiate their greed.

I believe personally and professionally (PsyD) that there’s a basic nexus between the pathological individualism of those who commit mass-murder and those who impoverish millions of families in pursuit of personal profit and power. more…

Sociopaths Rule…

In 1990, at 47, I was tried and convicted for cocaine conspiracy. The court sentenced me to 25yrs in federal prison. To that point, my adult careers included journalism, criminal and civil investigations, and left-political activism.

One might imagine my surprise to  find that most predatory criminals are not in prison. In fact, for the most part they rule the nation, its business and its laws (and the prisons for that matter). more…

Social Justice Survey…

One of the reasons that we don’t usually recall memories of our pre-natal and infancy is because the myelin sheaths of our brain neurons are not yet fully developed.

Without that fatty tissue (like insulation on a conduction wire), all sensations and perceptions are somewhat scrambled and memory impressions unable to properly form.

For this and other reasons, contrary to fundamentalist navel-gazers, we don’t become functional persons until some period after birth. more…

The Sociopathic 1%…

The 1% are comprised of a disproportionate share of sociopaths who will only relent their current pursuit of total profit, privilege and power if (1) they perceive it to be in their self-interest, or (2) they are introduced to Monsieur Guillotine. Justice favors for the latter.

In pursuit of this discussion, allow me to introduce Joseph E. Stiglitz and Dr. Martha Stout.

Stiglitz is the former Chief Economist of the World Bank, recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, and a professor at Columbia University.

Dr. Stout, a psychologist, was on the clinical faculty at Harvard University for 25 years, and authored several books, including The Sociopath Next Door (2005). more…

Conservatism vs. Moral Development…

Disclosure: This commentary comes from both my political and scientific training. Politically, I consider myself a revolutionary, democratic socialist. I am also a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD). Make of it as you will…

First of all, I believe that as a social species we’re born conservative. We start out as squalling, demanding infants totally focused on our own needs, wants and desires. As we grow, we adapt to our given culture. (Albeit, there is convincing research that indicates that 1% of humans are born as psychopaths.) more…

Is there any there there?

I’m of the opinion that there is more than ONE way to get from here to there…

America’s prevalent national characteristic, as anyone who does any traveling can attest, is individualism.

This is a two-sided dilemma. While good for personal profit, privilege and power, it also makes us the most internally alienated society on earth. more…

Language & Socialization…

The acquisition of a doctorate in psychology (PsyD) gave me more than a nice piece of paper to hang on the wall. There’s actually method behind the madness of racism, nativism, sexism and corporatism.

We all come into this world as infants totally absorbed in our own needs and wants: true individuals where we are the only person that is the focus of existence. Growing beyond that is the essence of civilized social behavior. more…

Social Consciousness…

People acculturate normally into our respective societies thru family, peers, schools and nation. We tend to accept the broad systemic beliefs and behaviors of what we’ve observed, been taught and told.

These beliefs and attitudes are borne thru early formative psycho-social development. Basic identification with certain morals, values and ideals serve to determine how we later relate to and define social, political and psychological events. Thus is life… more…

The Mass Psychology of Fascism…

As a prisoner and a doctor of psychology (PsyD, CalSouthernU), I was especially interested in USP Lewisburg, PA. Despite my situation, I found its history fascinating.

wReich-001As the prison bus climbed the long hill, I had to strain against the chains binding my hands, feet and waist in order to peer thru the wire-caged windows at the French-gothic edifice.

The bus pulled up to a huge gate in the high walls and the guards put their weapons into a basket lowered from the gun tower before we entered.

I was keenly aware of passing into the former home of Al Capone, “Bugs” Moran, “Machine Gun” Kelly, John Gotti, James Earl Ray and “Whitey” Bulger. more…
