After 20 yrs in federal prison, in August of 2009, I was designated to complete my final two yrs on home arrest. It was a pilot Congressional program of which my nominal sponsor, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), was an author.
Downtown Detroit, Michigan...
In order to qualify for the program, one had to be over 65, have a clear conduct record; no sexual predation in their history; be a non-violent first-offender; and to have served at least 10 yrs and 75% of your sentence.
Hell, Big Bubba Clinton wouldn’t qualify for that Program on his history alone! more…

All prisoners must undergo a pre-release program as they’re getting ready to exit prison. This includes a variety of classes on psychology, drugs, and employment programs.
Retirement Insurance Program
Prisoners must also get their ID…a birth certificate, a driver’s license, and a Social Security card. This includes a request to Social Security for one’s personal earnings and benefits status.
Since the average federal inmate is 39, and over 70% are serving 5 yrs and more with some 52% on drug charges, it’s been my experience that many of these men have a significant work history. more…
